huhnhaus, a city chicken coop – part 2

This is part 2 of the urban chicken coop project. Click to see part 1.

The goal of the design is to provide a compact, self contained and easy to clean chicken coop for people who want to raise chickens in the city.

I’ve taken the chicken coop sketches and created a 3D model that better illustrates the various design features of the chicken coop.

This first image (above) shows the chicken coop completely closed.

The main door folds up, providing air and light to the inside of the roosting area. The folding door also serves as a sunshade, preventing direct sunlight from entering the coop.

A clean out tray slides out from under the roost area for easy clean up. Splitting this tray into two pieces would probably make it easier to handle.

The door to the nest area is open on the right and the nest drawer is shown sliding out.

Here we see the entry door in the open ramp position. Strips of wood are attached to the back of the door to provide for traction.

A removable clean out tray is also installed below the lower level.

The side of the lower level swings open to allow for easy access to the feeder and waterer.

Finally, we see the coop with the doors open and the screens and trays removed for an extensive cleaning. This view also shows the access way between the roost and the egg laying area.
