Kitchen Renovation, part 2

Demotion and Construction. This is part 2 in a series that follows the design and construction of a kitchen renovation. Click here for part 1.

The majority of the demolition involved removing the existing kitchen. Including the appliances, counters and cabinets, and the walls. The ceiling drywall was also removed so that a new and level ceiling could be installed.

The red area in the 3d model above shows the areas to be demolished.

The side wall contained  the soil stack pipe for the second floor, the air conditioning supply duct, a hot water supply, and a cold water supply line. Since the design called for an open space, we were able to move these pipes and ducts to the back wall and build a chase to conceal them.

Construction begins. Here we see the low wall being framed that will separate the kitchen from the living room. Furring strips have been attached to the concrete blocks to receive the drywall.
